TOKYO - The operator of the Fukushima at the Japan nuclear power plans to install underground walls around its reactors crippled to prevent oozes out of radioactive water, as a broadcaster.
Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) studies the measure to contain contaminated water, leakage of the reactors that have been damaged in the March 11 earthquake and the tsunami, TV Asahi said Saturday, citing anonymous sources.
Workers would have to dig to a depth of 15 metres (50 feet) to reach an impermeable layer to build walls, he said.
TEPCO has dumped a huge amount of water in containers of reactor and overheating pools containing nuclear fuel rods, spent after that the magnitude 9.0 earthquake triggered waves of monster which eliminated the plant cooling systems.
Workers fighting to stabilize the battered nuclear facilities subsequently are highly contaminated water drowns the buildings of the turbine and underground tunnels, with some running off the coast of a concrete pit cracked in the Pacific Ocean.
Sealed the crack, they faced a challenge in trying to ensure that no seepage of groundwater of the plant.
The report came a day after that the construction former Minister Sumio Mabuchi, which is now one of the advisers of the Prime Minister Naoto Kan, has suggested the plan.
A TEPCO spokesman ceased to confirm that the project would go ahead.
"The company considers numerous possible measures to make, and it can be one of them, said a spokesman for the company."
Workers watering the reactors and fuel rod pools tried to control the amount of water they use, to limit the amount of water contaminated, produced by the process of cooling.
But the temperature in the reactor four fuel pool had increased to 91 degrees Celsius (196 degrees Fahrenheit), forcing workers to add more water to prevent the rods are exposed and releasing radiation, TEPCO, said Saturday.
"The company intends to send a waterproof CCD camera in the water in the pool, but the temperature today is 91 degrees c, which is too high," said the spokesman. "But should also carefully monitor the amount of water injected."
The aircraft was to be used to check the status of the fuel rods and see if everything had melted.
