President Obama has approved the use of UAVs armed on the Libya, the Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, announced Thursday.
The first flights began Thursday, but the drones were recalled because of weather conditions, said General James Cartwright, vice President of the General staff of armies. Drones can detect enemies hiding by shrapnel near the ground and other weapons, he said at a press conference with doors.
Gates called drones "modest contribution" to the efforts of NATO in Libya and a "limited additional role" on the part of the United States military.
The Chief of the defence reiterated that give "non-lethal assistance" to Libya is a "significant contribution", and he noted that American troops are not in the country. "I think the President was undertaken, for example, on the boots on the ground - there is no room for maneuver on this"Gates said."".
He also asked that if it is concerned that the Libya would be thrown into an impasse. But Gates, which should leave his job this year, joked, "Well, the concern that will be my successor."
