Transocean Ltd., in a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, said hefty bonuses and raises top executives have been based in part on "performance in security company" last year.

"Notwithstanding the tragic loss of life in the Gulf of the Mexico, we have reached an exemplary statistical balance measured by our total recordable incident rate and the rate of total gravity potential," the SEC statement reads. "Such as measured by these standards, we recorded the best year in safety performance in the history of our company."

Security represents 25% of the performance measures that determined the 2010 bonus plan, said the proxy form.

Transocean has tried to erase the water first with apology Monday.
