New York (CNN) - the remains of three women found on a stretch of remote from the beach on Long Island, New York, are not those of Shannan Gilbert, whose research led to the investigation of a serial killer as possible.
Gilbert, 24, of Jersey City, New Jersey, has been missing since May and has been seen living in the region Gilgo Beach. Authorities searched for clues about his disappearance, last year, they discovered a total of eight corpses found in various stages of decomposition.
A woman's body was found March 29 at the coast of Ocean Parkway, West of Cedar Beach, said police.
When the established medical examination that they were not the remains of Gilbert, the police continued to search for. Monday, they found the remains of three additional people. They were also since determined not to be those of Gilbert, police said in a statement Tuesday.
Gilbert's sister, Sheree Gilbert, said Nancy Grace Tuesday evening of the HLN she was surprised that none of the victims have been his brother.
"When we discovered first in December, the first organization that initially they had found could have been hers, we had already prepared ourselves and we just hoped the research would have been terminated," Sheree Gilbert said. "We just don't know where it is at this time and we do not want to suffer." We don't want to be lost somewhere, not never found. ?
Police say prosecution of a serial killer potential continues, as the search for Gilbert, who, as women whose bodies were found, advertised on sites like Craigslist prostitution services.
The first four bodies were found piled in the bushes on a stretch of one-quarter mile of waterfront property on the beach of oak, indicating "that they have been dumped there by the same person or persons,", said Richard DormerSuffolk County Police Commissioner, in December. "It is too coincidental that there were four bodies in the same place."
The remains of the fifth corps were found about a mile from where the other corpses were discovered, he said, refusing to disclose exactly where the other three remains were found on Monday.Watch Nancy Grace from Monday to Sunday from 8 p.m. et on HLN. Click here for the latest from Nancy Grace.
