
Former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania announced Wednesday that it had opened a Presidential Commission for the collection of funds, a step that allows him to explore a bid for the Republican presidential nomination.
Mr. Santorum, which, for months, was himself to voters in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, filed documents with the Internal Revenue Service to seek contributors. It is the fourth potential Republican candidate to begin raising money for a presidential bid.
He made his announcement in an interview on the Fox News channel "on the record" program on Wednesday evening. (Earlier this year, Fox News Channel suspended its role as a contributor to the network while he took a decision concerning its future policy.)
"The test for me is whether if we can raise the money which is necessary, so I will set up a Committee," said Mr. Santorum. "We will determine in the coming weeks as to whether resources are being there to do."
Mr. Santorum has been aggressively develop social conservatives in the statements of vote at the beginning. He received an initial display of support by winning a straw poll, last week at the Republican convention in Greenville County, the largest County in South Carolina.
He served two terms in the Senate, where he was a most ardent critics of the Republican Party of abortion rights and stem cell research. He lost his bid for a third term in 2006 (Senator) Bob Casey, Pennsylvania Democrat.
As he announced his presidential fundraising committee Wednesday, Mr. Santorum also introduced a new slogan of the campaign on its website: "Fighting to again make America America." It is planned to speak to voters, Thursday, at a meeting of style City Hall at the College of New England to Henniker, N.H.
