(CNN) - Yale University senior-A was killed in an accident in machining of a laboratory of chemistry late Tuesday or Wednesday said officials at the beginning, school in Connecticut.

Michele Dufault in Massachusetts was working on a project of the Sterling Chemistry Laboratory machine shop when his hair was caught in a tower, a machine that shapes material by turning against a tool, Yale President Richard c. Levin said in a statement by e-mail. His body was found by other students who worked in the building, said Levin.

The cause of death was asphyxia due to compression of the neck, and the accidental manner, said Kathy Wilson, an investigator of the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical examiner.

The Yale laboratory machine shop is a place where students can build or modify research instruments, according to the website of the Department of chemistry.

"The University has programs to train the students until they use power equipment. Nevertheless, I undertook a thorough review of security policies and practices of laboratories, machine shops and other facilities with equipment of power that is accessible and operated by the students of first cycle, "Levin said.

Levin statement did not say if Dufault was alone in the machine shop, when the accident occurred. A call seeking comment additional Wednesday of Yale spokesman Tom Conroy was not returned.

The laboratory was closed Wednesday because of the accident, and the classes of the day in the laboratory have been cancelled. Levin said he met the parents of Dufault Wednesday, and his parents will return to campus for a memorial service, before the end of the semester said Levin.

Dufault, who was with specialization in physics and astronomy, was of Scituate, Massachusetts, and because the graduate next month, subsidiary CNN WTNH reported.

Dufault "also had keen interest in oceanography and intended to undertake work in this area, after graduation Levin has."
