New York (CNN) - the search resumed Tuesday in an area near the beach of Gilgo on Long Island, New York, after officials found the remains of eight people, while searching for a missing woman from New Jersey.
Shannan Gilbert, 24, of Jersey City has been missing since May and has been seen living in the region Gilgo Beach. Authorities searched for clues about his disappearance, last year, they discovered the bodies of four prostitutes in various stages of decomposition.
A further body was found on 29 March, off the coast of Ocean Parkway, West of Cedar beach.
When the established medical examination that they were not the remains of Gilbert, the police continued to search for. Monday, they found the remains of three additional people.
Police say prosecution of a serial killer potential continues, as the search for Gilbert, who, as women whose bodies were found, advertised on sites like Craigslist prostitution services.
